Communicating Your Powers in Internship and Job Interviews

Thanks to the more than 120 collegians who joined us for our Annual Conference at Drexel University on Saturday, January 4. Through the superheroes theme, “Discover Your Power,” the conference prompted each participant to explore their own powers that lead to college and career success.

The collegian workshop was facilitated by Life and Career Coach, Anna Papalia, founder of Shift Into Balance. Ms. Papalia’s session opened with an opportunity for each student to reflect on his/her own powers. Check out Ms. Papalia’s blog this week for a post that reviews the 10 Questions to Discover Your Strengths.

Most of the workshop session focused on the information every student needs to know about job and internship interviews. You can download Ms. Papalia’s comprehensive guide to interviewing at her website. Student evaluations of the session included appreciation for many of Ms. Papalia’s points including:

  • the importance of first impressions
  • the structure of an elevator pitch/ 30 second spot
  • the key steps to preparing for an interview
  • what constitutes professional attire
  • the powerful lessons gained through failure

Philadelphia Futures will be seeking ways to continue working with Ms. Papalia and Shift into Balance. We are pleased that so many collegians found this Conference session particularly informative.

You can find more information about Ms. Papalia, her services, and resources on her website, facebook, twitter, and LinkedIn.
